Come to our Big Spring Book Sale Event inside the Westport Library! Thousands of gently used books in over 50 categories, including children’s; literature and classics; fiction, mystery, and SciFi and fantasy; art, photography, history, math, science, psychology, philosophy, religion and spirituality, biography, business, cooking, gardening, performing arts, travel, foreign language, education, reference, and more, including Noteworthy, especially antiquarian books. Plus vintage vinyl, DVDs and CDs, ephemera, and a large selection of framed artworks, from small desktop pieces to supersized wall pictures.
Please note: Graphic novels and manga will be available only at our Westport Book Shop, right across Jesup Green from the Westport Library. For Book Shop hours, click here.
Of special interest for this sale:
- A large collection of Philosophy books, donated from the library of a retired professor of philosophy, plus a concentration of books on Spirituality, including Eastern and Native American spirituality
- An extensive collection of History books, especially Military History, with many very scarce titles, focusing on World War II, including fully illustrated studies of period aircraft, weaponry, ships and combat vehicles, many of which are prized by modeling enthusiasts; and plenty of American History & Politics, and World History books as well
- A large assortment of framed art — from small desktop pieces, to large wall pieces

- We are pleased to announce the participation of Birdie’s Bookmobile at at this year’s festival. Birdie’s Bookmobile is dedicated to eliminating book deserts and making books more accessible to children in Detroit. Birdie’s Bookmobile helps families build print-rich home environments, improve literacy outcomes, and grow lifelong readers. In addition to accepting donations of children’s and young-adult books, the bookmobile will be offering several fun activities for children attending this year’s Bookfest, including:
- Create Your Own Comic Strip
- Have Fun with Mad Libs
- “Once Upon a Time” — children take turns adding one sentence to a story. The story will be available to read on the Bookmobile website after Bookfest.
- There is no admission fee at Bookfest, nor is there any charge for children to participate in any activities.
- Book donations help build home libraries, promote shared reading experiences, and impact generations. Every book counts! Book needs for children from birth to age 18 include:

- This is a well-organized sale with all items sorted into categories. Our books are stored on shelves (not in boxes) in our 4,000 square-foot shopping area and are categorized into fiction, non-fiction, mystery, sci-fi/horror, teen literature and childrens'. Fiction is alphabetized by author. Non-fiction is categorized by subject.
- The DVDs, CDs, vinyl records, and sheet music are also sorted into categories.
- Over 30,000 books items for sale spread across all three floors of the library.
- Inventory is always fresh since the last sale.
- Signs are located inside the library indicating where the various items are located.
- Cash, check, or credit card (on sales of $10 or more) accepted.
- To alleviate crowding during the busiest hours of the sale, and to provide a safe and pleasant experience to all our shoppers, pleae be mindful of the following guidelines:
- No wheeled vehicles permitted in the basement other than occupied strollers, wheelchairs, or book sale-owned bins and carts.
- No large bags or boxes will be permitted in the aisles and no books on the floor.
- There is a designated holding area for large bags and boxes as well as an area to store selected books that can no longer be carried by hand. Please note that if you take an item to the holding area, it is considered purchased, and you will be charged for it.
